August celebrates brilliant color, incredible blooms throughout Gibbs Gardens

Ask Jim Gibbs to name his favorite month at Gibbs Gardens and, in the blink of an eye, he’ll answer, “August! It’s just fabulous. There are thousands of annuals and perennials in bloom everywhere I look,” he adds. “It’s a festival of color.”

Gibbs Gardens is known for dazzling displays of colorful flowers from March through November, but something very special (almost magical) happens in August. Gorgeous, bold, beautiful flowers—in every shape and shade of the rainbow—welcome visitors throughout the gardens.

Summer in bloom throughout the Valley Gardens

The vast Valley Gardens offer visitors a wide variety of garden experiences throughout the seasons, but August—with summer flowers in full bloom—is exceptional. From allées of Crepe Myrtles adorned with masses of pink blossoms to Le Jardin’s vast planting beds featuring bold contrasting plants to rows of majestic rose bushes in full bloom—nothing compares to Gibbs Gardens in August.

Always special, the Monet Water Lily Gardens’ tropical and hardy blooms create amazing reflections in its ponds now through October. Gibbs describes the water lilies as, “jewels that sparkle and reflect in our ponds.” 

The new Secret Garden shows off its summer look

With elegant beauty and dramatic color, thousands of roses in shades of yellow, pink, red and white bring lush color throughout Gibbs Gardens. Dramatic S-curved ribbons of vibrant Knockout roses sprawl across the Valley Gardens. After being introduced this spring, the Secret Garden was replanted for summer with unique plants in a range of soft colors.

Unforgettable beauty throughout the Manor House Gardens

In August, Gibbs Gardens’ visitors experience the formidable beauty of nature as never before. All the flower gardens are dressed in full, lush summer blooms. There are blossoms everywhere from the Sunken Garden throughout the sprawling Manor House Gardens to the classical 130-foot-long trellis crowned with blush pink New Dawn roses and the new Fountains Garden—a lovely place to sit a spell.

In addition to exquisite floral displays, the Manor House Gardens offer picture-perfect views of the North Georgia Mountains, especially Mount Oglethorpe. The new Fountains Garden is a lovely place to sit a spell, take photos and just absorb nature’s beauty, all the gardens and mountain views.

Cool and relaxing

Gibbs Gardens offers guests a cool and relaxing visit. “While August can bring afternoon temperatures on the warm side, mornings are delightful, especially for those who arrive at opening,” said Gibbs. Twenty-nine ponds, streams and waterfalls flow with natural spring water throughout the gardens while thousands of trees provide abundant shade.
