Don’t Leave Your Tools Out in the Cold: Winter Care Tips

As winter approaches, it's time to give your watering tools the care they deserve. A little preparation now will ensure your tools will be ready to go when the warm weather of spring returns. Follow these simple steps to protect your tools from the harsh winter elements:

1. Drain Your Watering Tools Thoroughly

Water left in your hoses and watering accessories can freeze, causing cracks and other damage that may not be visible until the following season. Before temperatures drop, disconnect your hoses from outdoor spigots, and thoroughly drain all water from the hose and accessories.

2. Disconnect Hose-End Accessories

Take time to remove all hose-end accessories, such as sprayers, nozzles, and shut-off valves. These parts can freeze and crack if water remains inside, leading to issues when you’re ready to use them again. By draining and storing them separately, you’ll extend their life.

3. Store Watering Tools Indoors

For best care, store your watering tools inside during the winter months. A garage, shed, or basement are perfect places to keep your equipment safe from the cold. Avoid leaving them outside, as the freezing temperatures can cause significant damage to hoses, nozzles, and sprayers.

4. Keep Everything Dry

Even when storing your tools indoors, make sure they are thoroughly dried before storing them. Excess moisture can lead to rust, mildew, or damage to any metal components. Properly drying your tools before storage will ensure they stay in top shape.

Winterizing your watering tools is an important step to ensure they’re in great condition for the coming gardening season. By following these simple steps, your tools will be ready to tackle your gardening tasks as soon as warmer weather hits.

At Dramm, we care about keeping your tools in great shape so you can enjoy years of easy watering. Take care of your tools now, and they’ll take care of your garden when the new season begins!
