How to Coil and Uncoil Your Garden Hose for Winter Storage

by DRAMM

Storing your garden hose properly for the winter can be a breeze! With these easy steps, you'll store your hose properly, so it’s in perfect shape and ready for use next season.

Coiling Your Hose for Winter

Step 1: Drain and Prepare the Hose

  • Turn off the water supply, disconnect the hose, and let it drain completely.
  • Lay the hose flat to avoid any tangles or kinks. If you're storing it for the winter, make sure it’s fully drained to prevent any freezing.

Step 2: Coil with Ease

  • Start near the spigot and gently coil the hose into a circle.
  • Fun fact: Hoses have a natural “memory” and will curl the way they were extruded. Use that to your advantage to make coiling a breeze, ensuring it uncoils smoothly when you need it again!
  • The size of the coil is entirely up to you—just make sure it fits easily in your storage space.
