Planning a late summer/early fall wedding or party? Incorporating homegrown or locally sourced flowers is a great way to create beauty and style on a budget.
Last September, one of our customers was smitten with our Granvia strawflowers and used them in their wedding.
First, the couple grew the plants over the summer. Granvia bracteantha can be planted in large containers or in the ground. The color range spans red, white, pink, yellow and a few shades of orange.
Full sun is recommended.
Throughout the season, they harvested and dried the blooms to save for the late September wedding reception.
Second, they cut a fresh bouquet and staged the wedding announcement photography in a woodland setting. The bride wore an orange dress that matched a beautiful potted chrysanthemum. Three simple pops of color make a statement!
For the big day, dried Granvia blossoms were scattered on sage linen table runners. Fresh cut dahlias in the same color range matched beautifully! Gold plate chargers and silverware add bling and opulence.
This is a concept that can be dressed up or down.
The dried flowers can be harvested well in advance. I have extra Granvia Gold blossoms stored loosely in a box that are still bright yellow several years later. No need to spray with preservatives. Just keep the blooms in a dry, dark place until ready to use.
Make Your Own Confetti!
Another couple in the United Kingdom used the dried Granvia petals to create floral confetti! Each attendee received a sachet full of petals to scatter when the bride and groom exited the ceremony. What a fun alternative to rice, birdseed or bubbles! Plus, you get a splash of color in the air for the pictures. This idea would work with many types of flower petals.
