Heucheras are native only to North America; there are none to be found in Asia, Europe, Africa, or South America. This can be a bit surprising considering the number of genera that have relatives on these aforesaid continents.
The idea behind breeding the Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ series developed from a need: to increase the hardiness of Terra Nova's breeding in order to reach a wider audience in northern climates. Breeding from a species found in northern Saskatchewan, Canada, Terra Nova achieved its goal and then some.
The Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE series trialed superbly from Miami to Minneapolis. Its tolerance for heat and humidity came as a great and welcome surprise.
The Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE series features a dense, multi-crown habit and pelargonium-shaped foliage. The flowers of this series are just the right height, in perfect scale for pot production or garden planting. This series combines the attributes of a workhorse perennial and the super showy nature of some of the best Terra Nova Heucheras. Terra Nova Nurseries believe this is going to be a series that will be widely grown. Nothing seems to faze this series; cold winters, hot and humid summers, and wet, rainy weather are not going stop the Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE series from providing the easiest perennial color possible.
Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ Red possesses slightly more ruffled and cut foliage than the others in the series. This variety has a stunning cordovan-red color, with tiny cream-colored flowers that float above the foliage all summer long. This well-proportioned plant has lovely mounds of dense, glossy foliage, making this plant easy to use in both gardens and mixed containers. Mix with Artemisia MAKANA™ 'Silver' or Agastache Poquito 'Yellow' in a container for great color contrast. Learn more: http://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/heuchera-northern-exposure-red/.
Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ Silver has soft, gray foliage that is highlighted by prominent veins and a hint of violet from the back side of the leaf. NORTHERN EXPOSURE Silver is a vigorous, showy mound that's a workhorse in the garden. Covered in tiny pale-pink flowers in the summer, Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE Silver is best in full sun but grows well in partial shade too, showing more violet tones year 'round. Growing this heuchera is a gardener's delight. Learn more: http://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/heuchera-northern-exposure-silver/.
Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ Purple is loved by everyone! Its bold, violet-purple leaves are highlighted by dark veins and each large, rounded leaf has a metallic overlay of silver. Stunning in the garden as a foil for both flowering and foliage plants, Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE Purple will take its place in gardens as one of the best. Never melting in humid summers, or freezing out in the winter, Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE Purple can do it all. Though it's a difficult task to improve upon the world's favorite black Heuchera, Heuchera 'Obsidian', the Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ Black may have done it. Even more hardy and durable than Heuchera 'Obsidian', Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE Black is a great example of thoughtful breeding work. Tiny white flowers on ramrod straight stems are never a bother to clean during the year. This vigorous, large plant is a garden gem and works great as a foil for light colored flowers and foliage. Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ Sienna may be the most exciting NORTHERN EXPOSURE to date. With foliage almost indistinguishable from a fancy leaf pelargonium, Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE Sienna shows its sunny personality in containers and choice garden locations. Loads of rose-pink flowers in spring and summer complete this plant that has it all. Dense, mounding crowns carry gold foliage suffused in copper, coral and orange. Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE Sienna changes with the seasons and always shows her best. Learn more: http://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/heuchera-northern-exposure-sienna/.
Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ Amber is perhaps the best clear amber-colored heuchera on the market. Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE Amber glows in the garden. Very sun tolerant and hardy, this beauty is excellent in containers because of its compact, dense habit, but it also thrives where light colored heucheras may have failed in the past. Performing well in both southern and northern areas, Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE Amber is a winner for many reasons. Pick this one for a burst of color! Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ Lime is an exciting introduction with refreshing lime colored foliage. Fluffy mounds of bright foliage are topped by loads of coral colored flowers. The flowers are the most prolific and showy of the NORTHERN EXPOSURE series. Capable of turning nearly lemon-yellow in the sun, Heuchera NORTHERN EXPOSURE Lime loves high humidity and heat, yet is very cold tolerant as well. It is also fantastic in mixed containers and easy to grow. Learn more: http://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/heuchera-northern-exposure-lime/.
