Last year, we partnered with pot manufacturer Crescent Garden on a fall container challenge. Each designer received a Crescent Garden TruDrop Flex Container and four Granvia strawflower plants in gallon pots. Then they worked their magic. Behold seven lovely creations:
Beautifully Balanced
Designed by Alison Falkenburgh of Poplar Point Studio in Monrovia, NY, this container has a balanced symmetry anchored by Carex grass in the back center, flanked by a sunny Granvia strawflower on each side. Purple celosia and a plum colored heuchera provide contrast. Bright ornamental peppers pop while chartreuse lysimachia trails down like jewelry. Décor stems and strategically placed woven pumpkins complete the look.
Country Bumpkin
“Welcome to fall, y’all!” That’s the vibe Matthew Ingram of The Southerner’s Northern Garden was going for in Miamisburg, Ohio. Orange calibrachoa echoes the pumpkin while cool blue-green ornamental kale brings contrast. A waterfall of dichondra and yellow floral ribbon add finishing touches.
Ghostly Glow
You don’t need to choose fall colors to make a fall arrangement. Ande Schneider of Heidi’s GrowHaus & Lifestyle Gardens in Corcoran, MN, chose to focus on the white Granvia strawflower. Cool blue kale, juncus and soft white alyssum create a cool neutral arrangement. She said, “So happy with how this nontraditional take on fall turned out! Proving again it is totally fine to rock some white after Labor Day!”
Gourd-geous!
Howard Nemeroff of Plant Parenting in Chicago added faux butternut squashes to his stunning arrangement. Sunny Granvia blooms are joined by Rudbeckia ‘Toto Rustic’ and yellow pansies. Euphorbia ‘Ascot Rainbow,’ Plectranthus ‘Lemon Twist’ and asparagus fern bring color and texture. Tall pampas grass blooms command attention.
Mellow Yellow
Strawflowers bring feelings of nostalgia. Karin Hudson of Stoneleigh Home & Gardens, Fairfax, VA, designed hers with the memory of someone special in mind. “I worked part time at an herbary, where the owner created beautiful potpourris and had a large supply of strawflowers for her wreaths and bouquets,” she said. Her design featured Granvia Gold and White with a petunia picking up the two colors. Purple fountain grass adds height.
Peachy Keen
Julie Cruz of Adorn in Leawood, KS, embraced the warm tones in Granvia Peachy Keen, Gold and Harvest Orange. Purple petunias and light green lysimachia create the color triad. Twisty branches add height and whimsy. “These low-maintenance plants take full sun and have a paper-like feel,” she said. “I love their vibrant colors and unique texture.”
Pumpkins & Plumes
Leah James of Urban Oasis Containers, Wheaton, IL, found striped pumpkins to match the color scheme. “My inspiration was all about the texture and bright colors of the Granvia flowers,” she said. “I added the flowy texture of the millet and carex grasses, the leafy structured feel of the cabbage and kale, and I loved how the striped pumpkins echoed the color of the fantastic white Granvia in the front.”
A new container challenge is currently underway. One new Granvia color in the mix is Crimson Sun. Stay tuned for the results. For more information about Suntory Flowers, visit our new website, www.suntorygardenclub.com.
