Here’s a sweet treat for February – the month of love and hope for spring. These five new pink annuals will put you in the mood for planning and planting this season. Spring is on its way!
For a twice-as-nice splash of pink in your patio pots, try this new double-flowered calibrachoa that produces self-cleaning, rosebud-like blossoms. It shines from spring through fall in shades of soft pink with a bright rose pink ring around a small cluster of center petals.
The bicolor pattern makes it easy to pair with other flowers like Supertunia® Royal Magenta® petunias and Superbena Sparkling® Rosé verbena in containers. A filling-spilling shape will have the flower-laden stems cascading over the edges in no time, providing easy access to butterflies and hummingbirds. Annual for full sun to part sun, grows 6-12” tall, trails up to 30” long, requires good drainage.
One look and you’ll know why this Supertunia is so special. The one-of-a-kind flowers of Tiara™ Supertunias feature a luminescent glow which emanates from the center of the blooms similar to the color pattern found in some morning glory flowers.
Like its violet blue-flowered companion, Supertunia® Blue Tiara™, the princess pink blossoms of Supertunia® Pink Tiara™ continue non-stop from spring through fall without deadheading. Incredible vigor makes it a gorgeous flowering groundcover or long trailing plant for hanging baskets and upright urns. Annual for full sun to part sun, grows 4-12” tall, trails up to 36” long, grows best with consistent moisture and feeding.
Gone are the days when you’d need to wait months for your dahlias to bloom! Virtuoso® dahlias produce large, fully double flowers in shades of pink, bright yellow, violet purple and carmine red on proportional stems from planting time until frost. They are especially strong growers with good powdery mildew tolerance, which can be problematic for many dahlias. Pictured here is crowd favorite, Virtuoso® Pinkerific™ dahlia, which produces bouquets of soft pink blossoms to keep your vases filled all season. Heat-tolerant Angelface® Angelonia has long been a favorite of anyone who gardens where the mercury really rises in the summertime. It doesn’t skip a beat and continues to pump out new flower spikes through the heat. New this year, the novel cotton candy pink and white bicolor Angelface® Wedgwood Pink joins the series. Tall, semi-upright stems are lined with large, self-cleaning blossoms from spring to frost – plenty to spare for a summertime bouquet or two. Annual for full sun, grows 18-30” tall, 12-18” spread, grows well in containers and landscapes.
What could be a more iconic plant for Valentine’s Day than Heart to Heart® caladiums? Their colorful heart-shaped leaves shine in the summertime, providing a persistent, bright splash of pink, red, coral or white in container recipes and landscapes. They are the perfect complement to flowering annuals like Surefire® begonias and Summer Wave® wishbone flowers.
Some varieties like Heart to Heart® ‘Blushing Bride’, pictured here, are surprisingly sun tolerant in addition to flourishing in the shade. Oftentimes, their youngest leaves are a contrasting color to the more mature foliage, lending a two-toned look to the plant. ‘Blushing Bride’ starts off bridal white, for example, and “blushes” deeper pink as the leaves develop. Its stunning beauty and excellent garden performance has earned it the Caladium of the Year title for 2025. Annual for sun or shade, grows 15-20” tall, 8-10” spread, thrives in heat and humidity.
