Wet & Forget

image1March is the month of spring renewal, leprechauns, and all things green. Some of you may have a little too much green in your life. You know, those unsightly green patches on your driveway, patio, even your house making it look a bit grubby.

Although, mossy areas in the garden can be quite beautiful, that same moss can be a real hazard on walkways where you or a visitor might slip and fall. GardenSmart is proud to partner with a new company whose product, Wet & Forget, takes the drudgery out of cleaning those slippery or unsightly outdoor surfaces (pay attention all of you in the humidity belts). Wet & Forget eliminates mold, mildew, and algae on any exterior surface such as vinyl siding, outdoor carpet (even turf types), any roofing materials including cedar shakes, clay, tile, or steel - without elbow grease or bleach.

According to Brett Perry, President of Wet & Forget, “It is incredibly easy to use. Just dilute Wet & Forget 5-to-1 in a garden pump sprayer, apply to a dry surface, and walk away.” There is no scrubbing, no rinsing, and no powerwashing involved. Over time the product works with the wind and rain to gently break down the growth and washes it away, leaving a clean, fresh-looking surface with no real effort on your part.”

“You’ll notice the surface you apply it to getting cleaner and cleaner over time. Best of all, it only requires one application,” says Perry. He also shared this story, “A user just wrote us last week. Snow had been covering the surface he treated with Wet & Forget all winter. He wanted us to know, now that the snow is melting, he can see what a great job our product has done.”

When asked about re-growth Brett suggested, “As soon as you see the growth starting to re-appear, simply apply Wet & Forget to the area and it will quickly disappear and eliminate any further growth. Surfaces will stay clean for at least a year, many longer.”

Wet & Forget is a gentle solution with a nearly neutral pH. When Brett was asked what this means for the consumer, he replied, “Because Wet & Forget has a pH of 8, it is non caustic and non acidic, making it safe for application on any exterior surface.”image2

Wet & Forget is easy on the environment. It won’t leach into the soil and kill plants. “We always recommend covering shrubs and flowers that might be hit with overspray, or washing them down before and after applying Wet & Forget,” advised Brett. “It can cause some leaf spotting and can crinkle soft new growth and flowers.”

Concrete drives along with brick walks and house siding get the obvious benefits of Wet & Forget. It can be used on any exterior surface you can imagine. . . metal furniture, wood swings, vinyl seat cushions, awnings, statues, heck even that boat or RV parked in your driveway. They all shed their green with Wet & Forget

Wet & Forget originated in New Zealand as a commercial product over 30 years ago. Their first customer in the U.S. was Sea World, Orlando. Four years ago, it became available in residential sizes so that homeowners around the country could benefit. In addition to Sea World, it has been used to clean Australia’s landmark Sydney Opera House on Sydney Harbor.

Wet & Forget is available in over 5,000 retail outlets nationwide. You can find it seasonally in Sam’s Club and Costco; in independent Lawn-and-Garden and Hardware stores; in Aubuchon Hardware in New England; Meijer in the Midwest; and Fred Meyer out West. To find a store near you, just type your zip code into their simple to use store locator map:   Wet & Forget.
