Yes, You Can Plant That In A Container!
5 surprising plants for containers and small spaces.

By: Star® Roses and Plants

If you think containers are just for herbs or perennial mixes, think again! Many roses and ornamental shrubs can thrive in pots when given the right care. Here are five surprising plants that prove you can plant almost anything in a container.

Garden Gems® Redbud

Naturally compact with a mature size of 8–10 feet tall, Garden Gems® Amethyst is absolutely gorgeous in a large patio container. They bring spring blooms, heart-shaped summer foliage, and winter structure to your deck or patio. You can even start them in a container and replant in the landscape as a specimen after a few years.

Brick House® Rose

Miniature roses are great for containers, but what about full-size roses? Absolutely! Brick House® matures at 2–3 feet tall and wide and does well in a decorative pot. This is a great selection for the patio, because it attracts pollinators and complements many other plants. Just be sure to replace the soil every 2–3 years.

Emerald Squeeze™ Arborvitae

Evergreens are an excellent choice for containers because they can serve as a backbone for seasonal planters or simply remain a constant source of color and interest on the porch. Emerald Squeeze™ has a short, narrow growth habit, so it is perfect for tight spaces or flanking an entryway. It eventually reaches 8-feet tall after about 10 years but can be pruned for size if desired.

Sitting Pretty™ Rose

This rose works well in a container and is one you’ll want to keep nearby – it has a lovely fragrance and large pink blooms! At full size, Sitting Pretty™ is around 3–4 feet tall and wide and keeps a rounded habit, which is ideal for planting in a pretty pot.

Dapper® Pink Butterfly Bush

If you’re used to Butterfly Bushes growing large and taking over the garden, you’ll be surprised to see this shrub on the list. But Dapper® Pink remains compact at 3–4 feet tall and will thrive in a container. Now you can enjoy butterflies on the patio all summer!
