One of the longtime innovators in the world of rose breeding is Star Roses. Eric has been following their progress for decades. Some of the most important selections we find in the garden are one’s they’re responsible for. Ben feels that Star has a very robust breeding program and represent some breeders that have done some great work. They have put a lot of thought and care into their rose selection and what they’re coming out with as far as varieties. They are standing amongst some Knock Out’s which have done very well. But they also work with companies like Kordes Roses and many others throughout the world. Ben is impressed that they bring in, literally, hundreds of thousands of seedlings that they seed out and then cull those down and put those through a rigorous process before they release them to the market. So you know when you get one of their roses you’re getting something that is top notch, proven to do well in your garden, do well in your climate and has a lot of character as far as health, plus they're also very fragrant and beautiful. All round a good source of roses. And they’re also great propagators most of the roses here are own root roses. All of the roses they are trialing are grown on their own roots so they’ll do well. They do offer them grafted so one can get them either way. Ben has a preference for own root but does understand that they have grafted, so you can find a great selection of roses.
