Eric notices a plant that he first thought was a Sambucus. But it’s not. It’s a Laced Wing Japanese maple. One can see how the designer can use this Sambucus in similar spaces and it’s worth noting that the Sambucus is a much lower priced investment than a Japanese maple but it’s also faster growing, so there are a lot of advantages in using them in similar ways we might use a Japanese maple. They’re also deer resistant. Japanese maples have different colors of foliage, so does Sambucus. You can get a dark color Sambucus like Black Lace or Laced Up Sambucus, you can also get one with a beautiful chartreuse color, like Lemony Lace, and it will tolerate a little more shade. So you can bring the color in that we love with Japanese Maple with a little lower price point.
