Suntory Texas Summer Double

Midnight Wine® weigela is a new dark foliaged shrub from the breeder of Wine & Roses® weigela. This one is a dwarf, only 12 to 18 inches tall, making it perfect for the front of the border or as a deep spot of color in a container. Deer do not covet the dark burgundy-purple leaves.

Use Midnight Wine® weigela as a replacement for 'Crimson Pygmy' barberry. Barberries are thorny. Midnight Wine weigela has the colorful foliage without the thorns so it is user and neighbor friendly. While it is grown primarily for its dark foliage and low mounding habit, with maturity it does produce pink spring blossoms, which will attract both butterflies and hummingbirds.

There is no reason to trim Midnight Wine® weigela. This is a no work plant once it is in the ground. It stays put, thriving in full sun and USDA Zones 5-8.
