Suntory Texas Summer Double

Yellow is a cheery color in the garden. It is also very easy to work into any outdoor color scheme. It seems just about any other shade on the color wheel can sidle up to it. Unlike white, yellow holds its own as well as being a complement to its neighbor.

One of the happiest yellows to come along is a Genista called Bangle. You can plant a grouping for a bold look in the spring garden. Or, you can use Bangle next to purple, blue, or even red to draw attention to these neighbors. Once its flowers go by, its foliage texture and compact habit maintains its welcome in the garden. It is heat tolerant and doesnt need a lot of water to stay happy.

Back in 2008, Better Homes and Gardens mentioned Bangle as one of the 18 Best New Trees and Shrubs of the year. A compact habit and deer resistance add to its garden benefits. Since it is only one to two feet high, try using it in a container to underscore a small potted tree, such as a red maple.

It is hardy and will return to gardens in USDA Zones 4-9.
